IT Martini Hour 16: Now With 4G Mobile Briefing

March 22nd, 2011
By Terreece M. Clarke

No IT Martini Hour is complete without an interactive discussion gathering IT Thought Leaders around a timely topic facing the IT Community.  The 4G Mobile Briefing at IT Martini Hour 16: Mobile Madness promises to do just that!

The discussion, part of IT Martini's goal of fostering collaboration and connection in the IT Community, is about the impact of 4G mobile on technology convergence.

"These types of discussions are important for the IT Community because technology is all about evolving to meet the needs of end users," John Cox, vice president of IT services for Rockfish and panel participant said. "This field is in a constant struggle against obsolescence. These discussions hit on 3 key components of success in technology: ideation, inspiration and innovation. The first is social in nature. The second personal. And the last technical. These discussions and events touch on all three to move everyone involved forward."

Panelist Larry Chaffin, CEO, chairman and founder of Pluto Networks agreed. "I think too many people live in their own corporate bubble and don't get out to see what other companies are doing."

Part of the discussion will highlight and analyze successful examples of mobile technology use. When asked to define what counts as 'successful' Chaffin said simply "Return on investment."

Cox offered another characteristic of successful mobile tech use grown from behavior stimulated by the Internet.

"Whereas the Internet brought about a real appetite for instant gratification, mobile really can cash the check," he said. "One characteristic of successful mobile implementation is leveraging the moment. A big part of the mobile user experience is the now-ness of the application. That's why apps like shop savvy, twitter and 4square have been successful."

Other panelists on the growing list include Jay Naik, senior vice president, research and development lead for CitiGroup, Christopher Derouin, regional manager of channel sales at Sprint and moderator Guy Guckenberger Jr., general manager of MTCI data division.

The 4G Mobile Briefing kicks off  IT Martini Hour 16: Mobile Madness at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, March 30th at the Hyatt Regency in downtown Cincinnati.  Thanks to Exclusive Sponsors Sprint & MTCI, and Top Shelf Sponsors CincyTech, Pride Technologies, and FTPS for contributing to events that impact YOUR IT Community.
